Region
The Douro region is demarcated region to the oldest wine producers in the world. The Alto Douro Wine Region is part of a small elite classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, for its natural beauty and rich heritage. It is the meeting of the soil qualities, characteristics favorable climate and the hard work of the man who produces this unique wine.

Vineyards
The grapes are from various plots, deployed on land schist and arranged in terraces, all located in the Casal de Loivos village. All of the plots belonging to the family for several generations, consists of 5ha of vines aged 50 years and 12 ha planted 15 years ago. Older plots have mixture of traditional varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Tinta Francisca and Sousão. The youngest were planted with Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca.

Winemaking
The harvest took place in the second week of September. The grapes were harvested by hand, in small boxes of 18 kg, according to a careful selection of the best grapes in the vineyard, followed by a second choice to the winery entrance. The grapes were destemned for two small mills, where two days macerated at low temperature, before starting alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts under controlled temperature.
Fermentation lasted about three weeks, with homogenization by treading. Finished fermentation, was decanted into new French oak barrels stirred by "battonage" for 2 months to start malolactic fermentation.
