Dona Berta Reserva 2013 Red
Concept
Since the first harvest, the design of this wine has been based on the character of the Freixo de Numão terroir, characterized by an altitude varying between 400 and 600 m, in the middle of the Upper Douro.
Varieties and climate
The wine is based on the traditional vine varieties of the Upper Douro: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão and Touriga Franca, of vineyards located at a high level, which allows a slow maturation and the obtaining of balanced and perfumed grapes. The year 2013 was exceptional in the Douro, allowing a perfect maturation of the grapes, which made possible the production of a wine already very attractive and with great potential of guard.
Technology
The technology was minimalist, in order to allow the expression of castes and terroir. After crushing the grapes with destemming and disinfection with a minimum dose of sulphurous, selected yeasts were inoculated. The fermentation took place between 28 and 30 ºC, being made regularly, with aeration. After the malolactic fermentation, part of the wine was aged in wooden barrels for about a year, and the rest remained in stainless steel tanks until the final batch was prepared. The preparation of the wine for bottling was limited to a light glue and filtration. It has not stabilized by the artificial cold and can therefore form a slight precipitate over time, which in no way impairs the quality of the wine.
