Dona Berta Sousão Reserva 2013 Red
Concept
As the name suggests, it was intended to make a varietal wine where the character of the grape variety when cultivated in altitude was enhanced, as it happens in the region of Freixo de Numão.
Caste
Sousão is one of the most cultivated red grape varieties in Portugal. It has the northwestern part of the country, where it is known as Vinhão, produces generously and gives rise to the best reds of Minho, in particular, the area of Basto and Amarante. In the Douro, it originates wines of a very different style from the green ones, but with an unmistakable character - color retinta, aroma with vegetal notes, great freshness of mouth, enormous concentration of tannins and, of course, excellent alcoholic degree.

Tasting | |
It is retinto in color, presenting itself virtually opaque to the rays of light.
The aroma, at first, is discreet with slight notes of fruit and without the vegetal character, proper of the caste when it matures badly.
In the mouth, it leaves no one indifferent, thanks to the good acidity, enormous concentration of soft tannins and some minerality. It is ready to drink, but it will benefit you a lot with bottle time.
Serve at about 15ºC and proceed to decantation, given the possibility of having a slight sediment in the bottom of the bottle.
The wine needs strong dishes, with some acidity and enough fat, to express all its gastronomic potential. Therefore, nothing better than a lamprey à bordalesa, a cabidela or a good chanfana to see it shine and make us happy.
