Quinta do Monte d'Oiro Aurius 2012 Red

Man’s talent and commitment lifted the majestic Portuguese grape Touriga Nacional blending it thoughtfully with Syrah to consecrate the golden (áureal) expression of Quinta do Monte d’Oiro’s terroir.

Soil
Lime and clay from the superior jurassic period. Twenty hectares with different expositions and slopes.
Climate
Mediterranean microclimate with an Atlantic influence. Cold nights even during summer, max. temperatures of 31ºC, 675 mm average rainfall and a permanent blowing wind.
Vinification
Plot winegrowing work from the harvest to the end of the ageing process. Handmade harvest, with manual sorting. Desteming with no crushing. Fermentation in stainless steel temperature controlled vats. 10 days maceration. Stage for about 14 to 16 months in french oak barrels, 30% of which new ones.
Tasting Notes
Toast aroma, tobacco, notes of ripe fruits, such as plums. Complex and complete. Very fresh in the mouth, with notorious tannins, harmonious and vigorous with a long finishing. Firm and assertive. In this wine, I particularly enjoyed the purity of the fruit, the great tannin structure, the cask quality, and all of this in a combination that shows elegance and great aging potential in the cellar. A beautiful combination in a red that is, undoubtedly, gastronomic. João Paulo Martins, Revista de Vinhos magazine
