Region
The Douro region is demarcated region to the oldest wine producers in the world. The Alto Douro Wine Region is part of a small elite classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, for its natural beauty and rich heritage. It is the meeting of the soil qualities, characteristics favorable climate and the hard work of the man who produces this unique wine.
Vineyards
The grapes are from various plots, deployed on land schist and arranged in terraces, all located in the Casal de Loivos village. All of the plots belonging to the family for several generations, consists of 5 ha of vines aged 50 years and 12 ha planted 15 years ago. Older plots have mixture of traditional varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Tinta Francisca and Sousão. The youngest were planted with Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca.
Winemaking
The harvest took place in the second week of September. The grapes were harvested by hand, in small boxes of 18 kg, according to a careful selection of the best grapes in the vineyard. The grapes were destemned small stainless steel tanks, where macerated 24 hours at low temperature, before starting alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts at controlled temperature. Fermentation lasted about 15 days with gentle pumping for good extraction of color and aromas. After fermentation, it was discharged into containers into a stainless steel tank, where it naturally decanted until the time of bottling.
