Wine History
The barn owl, which is abundantly present in Tejo’s estuary is among the highest in Europe and perhaps the world. Intriguing and mysterious, the barn owl (Tyto alba) finds refuge in habitats created by the recognised sustainable agroforestry management Companhia das Lezírias.
This bird, which is vital for protecting the ecological balance of our vineyards, is one of the guarantees of the commitment we have made to conserving biodiversity.
The Tyto Alba brand honors not just a friendly species of the winegrower because it uses agricultural areas for food, keeping their vineyards protected and often using human constructions to nest, but also for its sentinel role in assessing exposure and side effects environmental contamination.
Besides the symbology associated with the barn owl’s direct action, the brand celebrates Companhia das Lezírias’ efforts resulting in strong partnerships with Universities and other national and international organizations dedicated to scientific research in order to promote sustainability management forest, with particular emphasis on the preservation and biodiversity promotion.
