HISTORY
The Casa Américo was established by the hands of Américo Seabra, father, who had the dream of producing wine in the land where he was born, Vila Nova de Tazém. The project was followed up by the hands of its children who recovered the property of the century. And built a new wine cellar. Casa Américo now has 100 hectares of vineyards, with the oldest being over 100 years old. Planted with the noble grape varieties of the Dão region, on poor granite terrain and are planted between 500 and 600m altitude. The sub-region where they are, Serra da Estrela, is one of the terroirs most important of the Dão and here are produced noble wines with a freshness and unique elegance.
VINEYARDS
This wine has a selection of the best grapes from our Quinta do Aral, a parcel of more than 80 years, with a great diversity of varieties that make a unique blend and impossible to reproduce.
VINIFICATION
The grapes were completely stalked and gently crushed to traditional granite wineries. During the fermentation the grapes were homogenized with foot steps. The malolactic fermentation occurred in barrels and after this fermentation remained another 18 months in the barrels. After the bottling, it spent four years in the bottle.
AGEING
18 months in French oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Produced from a single parcel at 1800 feet, the wine is a blend of nearly every Dão red grape. It is firm, with dark chocolate and plum skin flavors. Acidity and a concentrated structure are now working together, meaning the wine is ready to drink. (in Wine Enthusiast)
