In Vila Nova de Tazém, circa 500 meters high, close to the highest mountain in Portugal, a century - old farm gets to know a new influx of prosperity. One hundred hectares of vineyards with very old vine varieties grow in that privileged terroir
There they raised a renewed cellar that allows the extraction, from some of the most extraordinary vine varieties of the Dão region, of all the freshness and elegance that characterize some of the most loved wines of Portugal. The dream of the founder, Américo Seabra, flourishes in a portfolio where lively, fresh and balanced blends stand out.
That is the case of the white Casa Américo, elaborated with Malvasia Fina, Bical and Encruzado: lemon yellow colored with citrus and floral aroma, it surprises us through the delicate tasting with a lively and refreshing final acidity. The red, elaborated with Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Jaen, displays an intense ruby color, spiced red fruits aroma, and has great balance in the mouth, soft tannins and a medium fruity aftertaste. To complete the set we have a rosé elaborated with Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro, salmon colored with hints of raspberry, vivid, fresh and fruity.
The Casa Américo varietals introduce us to the unique character of the Dão vine varieties. The Jaen, made from selected grapes, ages 12 months in the bottle prior to its presentation to the wine lover. With a subtle aroma, hints of red fruits, it gives an elegant tasting with good acidity and round tannins. Casa Américo Encruzado honors one of a fascinating Portuguese vine varieties that thrive in the Dão region. It ages for three months in French oak barrels and earns our appreciation through its delicate aroma with hints of white pulp fruits and citrus peel. Creamy, with good acidity, it has a long aftertaste, subtle and mineral. The wines of a single vine variety are completed with an intense ruby-colored Touriga Nacional, with a harmonious aroma that provides an intense, muscled tasting with a long and spicy aftertaste.
Casa Américo Reserva and Casa Américo Vinhas Centenárias stand out. The first combines Touriga Nacional, tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro and ages for 8 months in French oak barrels. It can be distinguished by its aroma with hints of wild berries, dry pine leaves, slightly toasted. It is a wine with great character which exhibits tannins full of nobility, silky texture and a long aftertaste. The second one is a wine made from over one hundred-year-old vineyard that discloses the truth about the Dão. With an open ruby color, complex aroma with blueberry, jam and wild flower hints, it emerges very elegant in the mouth, well balanced with a long undisturbed aftertaste.
In a very well respected Portuguese wine region, it is a pleasure to watch the progressive and intoxicating return of the Dão to the table of the great Portuguese wine lovers. Projects such as Casa Américo, in a restored estate with such care that dignifies its centenary origins and honors the unforgettable terroir of the region, make it possible.
